What Is The Definition Of Finish The Check In Hockey? What Is Finish The Check In Hockey? Definition & Meaning On SportsLingo

1. This type of hit in ice hockey that typically involves checking the other player just after the player has given up possession of the puck. It is differentiated from a late hit in that the motion to check the player started while the player still had the puck (as opposed to a late hit, where the check is not initiated until after the puck is gone). As long as the player does not finish the check too late, it is not called as a penalty.

Also, to “finish the check” means that the player checks their opponent in a manner that their opponent can no longer contribute to the play. The player who “finishes the check” will most likely check their opponent into the boards.

Examples Of How Finish The Check Is Used In Commentary

1. Leetch comes up the ice and finishes the check on Lindros, pinning him for a few seconds before moving on.
