What Is Taunting In Football? Definition & Meaning

1. This is a penalty in football that is called when a player acts too aggressively toward an opponent on the field. Some examples of taunting can include spiking the ball toward the other team, shoving the ball at an opponent and post-touchdown celebrations that include mocking or baiting the other team.

Taunting is considered unsportsmanlike and results in a 15-yard penalty.

Examples Of How Taunting Is Used In Commentary

1. Suh stands over the quarterback after he delivers a viscous hit and is flagged for taunting, automatically granting the other team a first down.
