What Is Justin Verlander’s Net Worth?

What Is Justin Verlander's Net Worth?

Troy Taormina/USA TODAY Sports

Net worth: As of 2022, Justin Verlander has a net worth of $160 million.

Justin Verlander is currently a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Houston Astros. A native of Virginia, Verlander played college ball at Old Dominion University (ODU) and was drafted with the second overall pick by the Detroit Tigers in 2004.

His ascent to the big leagues was lightning fast, making a debut with the Tigers in 2005. Verlander remained with the Tigers for 12 seasons, becoming one of the best pitchers for Detroit in team history. His dominant pitching helped lead the Tigers to four consecutive Al Central division titles from 2011 to 2014.

In 2017, before the trade deadline, the Tigers traded Verlander to the Houston Astros, where he has remained since. When he arrived in Houston, he immediately helped the team win the World Series and was one of the game’s fastest pitchers to reach 200 wins with 412 starts. In 2019, he became the sixth pitcher in history to toss three career no-hitters.

In October 2022, his Astros were set to face the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series.

Justin Verlander’s career earnings

Verlander has made a substantial amount of his earnings in sizable contracts during his 17-year career. Here is a breakdown of earnings broken down by the two clubs he has played for:

  • Detroit Tigers: $184,447,831 (2005 – 2017)
  • Houston Astros: $115,140,391 (2017 – current)
Verlander is set to become a free agent in 2024, but a pitching milestone triggered an earlier potential exit. In a game against the Cleveland Guardians, he reached 130 innings for the season, unlocking a player option clause allowing Verlander to opt out of his $25 million deal for 2023. Even at 39-years-old, the future Hall of Famer is set to command a lot of attention for MLB clubs looking to push into the postseason in 2023.
