What Is Definition Of Draw In The Defense In Basketball?

1. This occurs when the offensive player with the basketball attracts an additional defender, therefore “drawing in the defense”, allowing another offensive player to become open. It’s the job of the ball carrier to find the open player after drawing in the defense.

Drawing in the defense is a common offensive strategy for teams that have quick, scoring guards. For example, if a team has a quick point guard who is able to get to the hole, then they will use him to penetrate the lane, drawing in the defense.
