What Is The Weak Side In Football? Definition & Meaning

1. The side of the football field where the offensive formation has fewer players is typically called the weak side or, in some cases, the back side. Defenders often accommodate for these formations by moving their players for more coverage on the strong side, which the offense may take advantage of by passing to a weak side receiver. The tight end is typically placed on the strong side, making the opposite side of the field the weak side.
