In 1988, Mike Tyson was easily one of the top athletes and celebrities in the world.
He seemed to have it all back then: loads of money, championship belts, a TV star wife and countless endorsements. In March of that year, Tyson was prepping to defend his belts against Tony Tubbs in Tokyo, Japan. With a record of 33-0 before the fight, Tyson was unstoppable. Tubbs didn’t stand a chance against Tyson, and eventually lost by TKO in the second round.
But like all big matchups, there were countless prefight interviews and shows. Below are some rare outtakes from an interview and promotion that Tyson put up on his website on Wednesday. The outtakes shows many different sides to Iron Mike. He is playful, frustrated and nervous. You name it, he probably felt it. He even tries to flirt with someone off camera and says “they blush real easy around here.”
One of the funnier moments for me comes around the 5:10 mark when a crew member goes up to Tyson to adjust his mic or something and Tyson quickly snaps, “Don’t touch me,” before realizing what the guy had to do.
I bet the guy nearly shit his pants. Ha!
